Choosing the right caregiver
It helps to know the difference before you call. An aya looks after daily needs: bathing, changing, feeding, medicines on time and company. A nurse (ANM or GNM) handles medical tasks the doctor has prescribed, such as injections, IV drips, dressings and catheter care. A male attendant is usually best for a heavier male patient who needs lifting, and a physiotherapist helps with exercises to regain movement.
