Many male patients are more comfortable with a male attendant for bathing and toileting, and some patients simply need more lifting than one person can safely manage. Our male attendants provide personal care at home for both reasons, in Sonarpur and across south Kolkata.
What a male attendant does
- Bathing, shaving and dressing male patients
- Toileting, urinal and bedpan use, and diaper changes
- Lifting and moving patients between bed, chair, commode and wheelchair
- Turning bedridden patients to help prevent bedsores
- Helping with walking and exercises the doctor or physiotherapist has set
- Going with the patient to hospital visits and check-ups
Who this is for
Male patients recovering from a stroke, a fracture or surgery; heavier patients who need two people or a strong pair of hands to move; and families where a male relative would rather not be cared for by a woman. If the patient is in hospital, see hospital male attendant. For hospital-style support such as moving patients and running errands, see ward boy.
How to arrange a male attendant
- Call or WhatsApp +91 90513 20961. Tell us the patient's condition and weight, how much lifting is involved, and the hours you need. The phone is answered around the clock by the people who will actually arrange the caregiver.
- We suggest who to send. If what you describe needs a nurse rather than an aya, or an attendant rather than either, we will say so.
- Shift and rate are agreed first. Shifts of 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 or 24 hours are available, and you know the cost before anyone is sent.
- The caregiver comes to you, often the same day, and we check back to make sure the match is working.
Common questions
Can a male attendant stay overnight?
Yes. Shifts of 4 up to 24 hours are available, including night shifts.
Does a male attendant give medicines or injections?
An attendant can remind the patient to take medicines but does not give injections or change medication. For that you need a nurse.
Is a male attendant right for a female patient?
Usually a female aya is better for a female patient's personal care. A male attendant may still help with heavy lifting alongside her.
