A home nursing service brings a qualified nurse to the patient, so medical care that would otherwise mean a hospital stay or daily trips to a clinic can happen at home. Our nurses work across Sonarpur and south Kolkata, for a few hours a day or around the clock.
Our nurses follow the treatment plan written by the patient's own doctor. They do not diagnose or change prescriptions, but they carry out the doctor's instructions carefully and report any change in the patient's condition.
What a home nurse does
- Checks blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen level and blood sugar
- Gives injections and medicines as prescribed, including insulin
- Manages IV drips and cannulas when the doctor has ordered them
- Dresses surgical wounds and bedsores, and watches for infection
- Cares for urinary catheters and Ryle's tubes (feeding tubes)
- Gives nebulisation and monitors patients on home oxygen
- Keeps a daily record for the doctor and the family
Choosing the right kind of nursing
For daily visits or a day shift, a home nurse is usually enough. If the patient needs monitoring through the night, see 24-hour nurse service. For long-term conditions such as diabetes or heart failure, see nursing care for chronic illness. To understand the difference between ANM and GNM nurses, see ANM and GNM nurses.
How to arrange a home nurse
- Call or WhatsApp +91 90513 20961. Tell us the patient's condition, what the doctor has prescribed, and how many hours of nursing you need. The phone is answered around the clock by the people who will actually arrange the caregiver.
- We suggest who to send. If what you describe needs a nurse rather than an aya, or an attendant rather than either, we will say so.
- Shift and rate are agreed first. Shifts of 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 or 24 hours are available, and you know the cost before anyone is sent.
- The caregiver comes to you, often the same day, and we check back to make sure the match is working.
Common questions
Do I need a doctor's prescription for a home nurse?
For any medical task, yes. The nurse follows the patient's doctor's written instructions for medicines, injections, drips and dressings. Please have the prescription ready.
Can a home nurse come just once a day for an injection or dressing?
Ask when you call. Short shifts start at 4 hours; whether a shorter visit is possible depends on location and timing.
Is a home nurse the same as an aya?
No. A nurse is qualified for medical care; an aya gives personal care. Many patients need both.
